We will review the SIP requirements. 
Your assignment is as follows:

1. Brainstorm for 10 minutes a list of stories and/or you would like to write. 

2. Write 2 questions you have about writing. These must be at least 15 words in length and able to be researched for the next 20 minutes or so.

3. Begin researching using the internet to find at least 2 answers for your questions. You may not use any ask.com, wiki sites, or general post websites. Writer’s blogs are acceptable.

4. Write a 100 word reflection on your research process and the answers you found for your questions. Create an MLA works cited page using an MLA citation generator (google search: MLA citation generator and pick one)

5. Be ready to present to a group of 3, the questions you wrote and the answers.

6. Closure: Write 1 thing you learned in the comments section below.

SIP Day 2 Assignment 8/22/16

Way to go PV Cheer, Band, & Football!! Awesome Game and performances!! It was Awesome to see the crowd! Way to represent PV!!


Objective: Complete your action plan and worksheet in order to know where to start your SIP.
Bellwork: Review the SIP requirements. What concerns do you have?

1. Work on your Brainstorm and Resources & Action Plan worksheet. Once complete, bring it to me to view. If you need an online copy: Brainstorm and Action plan.

2. Once your worksheet is done, you may being your BASE story. Remember this story will be posted on your blog as your BASE and starting point. PLease see me if you have any questions.
3. Start thinking of a gmail address you would like to use. If you already have one, please come share it with me!
4. Closure: Share your brainstorm and story ideas with 3 other people.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate information regarding internet safety in order to create an appropriate and safe gmail account.

Bellwork: Write down the objective. What do you think about internet safety?

Your Mission:

1. Create 5 questions you have about internet safety (How to be safe on the internet).
2. Conduct some research on the internet to find information that answers your questions! You may use websites that are academic in nature. This means wikipedia, ask.com, any wiki site, yahoo asks, etc are NOT permitted.
3. Write a short 100 word reflection on what you discovered during your research and your research process. Be ready to share what you learned about the process and the answers to at least one question.
4. Create a professional, safe, and school appropriate gmail email address. Warnings: do not use your full name. No identifying dates (no birth dates, birth years or graduation years, no indications as to locations--no zip codes address numbers! Palo Verde Magnet High School  info.)  I suggest you use your first initial and last name with a number or your first name last name initial with a number. PLease make sure your password is something you will remember!!!!

6. Create a Works Cited page to document the websites/articles you used. Use a MLA citation generator or Microsoft Word's citation generator. Use these options: Citation Machine or Ref Me) Or do a google search for citation Generator MLA

Today you get to become a BLOGGER!!!Whoohoo!!
Objective: Understand, in order to use for the SIP project, the blogger.com website.
Bellwork: Write down the objective. Have you ever visited a blog? If so, what was it about. If not, what do you know about Blogs/Vlogs?

1. Create 3 questions you have about blogging/blogs.
2. Conduct some research on the internet (use blogger.com) to find information that answers your questions! You may use websites that are academic in nature. This means wikipedia, ask.com, any wiki site, yahoo asks, etc are NOT permitted.
3. Create a blogger.com blog and set up pages using the PVhasAuthors Blog Guidelines.Your title should be something that represents YOU and the SIP/Creative Writing/Authors project.
4. Post your 3 questions you have about blogging on your new blog. Use the requirements to create your blog! Put your answers in a reflection on your first blog.
Write a short 100 word reflection ON your HOME blog page, on what you discovered during your research and your research process. Be ready to share what you learned about the process and the answers to at least one questions.

6. Don't forget to be thinking about your story for your summative this week. Also we will begin the college and career unit next week! So you will need to think about your SIP "Base/original" story to be started and posted when we return from Fall break.

Quarter 1 Formative Assessment SCHOOL CITY

OBJECTIVE: 
Evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or formats as well as in words in order to address a question or solve a problem

BELL WORK:
 Write down the objective. What are your plans for after high school? If you put “IDK”, what is 1 thing you have always wanted to do and why?

ANTICIPATORY SET:
Think about the last 3 years. Think about how you felt as a freshman and what you thought as a freshmen about graduating. Think about the first time you were asked what you want to be when you grow up.  Share this information with a partner. What did you say/think/do? 

Assignment: 
  1. Complete the Formative assessment for Q1 at the schoolcity website. See below for the information:
  • Steps: Go to this website: Quarter 1 Formative on School City
  • Put in your TUSD login information. Click “Assessments” Your Pin code is 2676. Answer the questions as best you can. This should not take long. Once you are done, go on to the worksheet 

2. Post 2-3 questions you have about colleges and scholarships. Complete the College and Scholarship research worksheet. (Homework is the Fasfa worksheet due next Monday). Post on your blog a quick 100 word reflection of your research on your Genius hour/SIP blog.

You have almost finished the first quarter of the 2016-2017 School Year!! 

Here is your assignment for the day! 

Objective: Use computers and internet to begin filling out the FASFA!  OR Write for an extended period of time. 

Bellwork: Write down the objective. Describe 2 ways you have grown this semester. OR Write down 2 good things that you have accomplished this semester. 

Assignment: 

If you are a SENIOR: 

              A. On your blog, write 3-5 questions you have about financial aid. 
              B.  Begin filling out the Fasfa (Fasfa website) as much as you can. You must have a FAS ID, in order to start. If you do not, do some research on your questions. Post the ANSWERS on your blog and then--  Click on the HAPPY OCTOBER link below. 
               C. If you are unable to complete or do anything on the Fasfa, work on your BASE STORY. Make sure you are working and saving in a WORD document and then copy and past to your blog (make sure you paste it on your static page titled "BASE"
               D. Click on the HAPPY OCTOBER link below.


IF you are a Junior: 
     A. On your blog, write 3-5 questions you have about the Fasfa or SIP.

SAT/PSAT PRactice! 


I hope you all had a great Fall Break! 

Here is today's assignment. Please don't forget that you will be taking the SAT on WEDNESDAY!!! 
OBJECTIVE: 
Evaluate information regarding the SAT OR PSAT in order to  familiarize yourself with the test and reflect on your skills

BELL WORK:
Write down the objective.  How will the SAT or PSAT affect you personally or academically? Or Write 2 sentences about why you believe tests are or are not a part of the “real world” after high school. 

Computer Lab ASSIGNMENT GH

1.      On your blog home page (remember that you need to go to blogger.com to log in), write your answer to the bellwork and 1 question about the SAT/PSAT you would like to answer today.

2. Complete (or start) a SAT or PSAT practice test on the college board website or the khan Academy website. Do as many questions as you can in 30 minutes. Check your answers for the next 10 minutes. and then complete # 3 below and the closure! :) 
Note: You do not need to print anything! Use a word document for your answers or you may print out an ANSWER Sheet only!!
