12-14 Publishing

12/14 -- Publishing and final workshop day

Objective: Use technology and your research skills to evaluate the steps to get a story published. 

Bellwork: Write down the objective. Answer the following question: If people have looked at and commented on your Nano story, what is one comment that you find helpful? OR  Have you given 100% to this class? WHy or why not? 

Classwork/Assignments:
1. Write 3-4 questions you have regarding publication of stories and/or novels. 
2. Spend no more than 30 minutes doing some research on the internet using your questions. 
3. on your blog POST at least 2 paragraphs about your research. 
4. Make sure you read and revise your partner's Nano story. Answer ALL 8 questions in their Nano Rough Draft page's comment field. 
5. begin revising your Nano story! THIS IS THE LAST DAY FOR REVISIONS AND INPUT. your final story is due tomorrow. YOu will have tomorrow to type up and make changes.

12/12/16 -- Revisions/Editing and Workshops

Objective: Evaluate a partner's nano story in order to suggest constructively revisions. 

Bellwork: Write down the objective. What do you think about the importance of vocabulary and reading to writers? 

Agenda: 
1. Log into School City, usComplete the assessment labeled RR_AZ_ELA_Grade11-12_L.4d 16-17_FormA  
2. Log into Achieve 3000 if you have not finished the reading assessment. Complete the assessment. 
3. Log into Synergy. Check your grade and chat with Mrs. Walker if you believe it is wrong or are missing assignments. 
4. Create the FINAL draft page on your blog. 
5. Finish revising and commenting on your partner's/group's Nano story. Make sure to answer all 8 questions! 
6. Begin writing your final draft of your nano story. Please use google docs or word doc.

Revising your Nano workshop

Objective: Make any revisions to your story
Bellwork: Write down the objective. Write a question you have for your story. What concern would you like your fellow authors to answer/address about your story?
Spend 5 minutes adding one conversation you heard today into your observation journal.
Bellwork Check: 11-22 to 12-9 = 11


Assignments: 

•Log onto your Blog through blogger.com
•Review Mrs. Walker’s 12/9/16 post

•Create a NEW page on your BLOG, titled: Your Name, 2016 Nanowrimo Rough Draft.

Copy and Paste your Nanowrimo to your new Blog page.
After you paste, add these questions to the bottom:
1. Based on the beginning what is this Nano story about?  Who is the most important character?
2. How might the author improve the first line and paragraph to grab readers?
3. Where and when is the story set? What details might be needed further?
4. Pick 2 places in the story that the author could add more details to SHOW what things look, sound, smell or even feel like?
5. List 3 things you really like about the author’s work. Include specifics from the story.
6. List 3 things the author can work on as they work on the final draft. Give suggestions for improvement.
7. List 2 questions you had while reading the story.
8. Author’s own /(bellwork) question: if the main character travels through the spring, where does she go? Is it a time-travel or more a visit to a fantastical place? Is she an observer, or does she “travel” and see the world through a person’s eyes who was already there?
 
•Locate your blog URL. Write it on a small piece of paper.
•Trade your blog url with your groupmates or you may share with the class. This is how you will be reading and editing another author’s work.

Welcome to the Revision/Editing/Possible Publication of your  NaNoWriMo!


12/5 Assignments below:

Objective: Research information on best practices (best way) to attempt revisions.

Bellwork: Write down the objective and answer the following: What are 2 things you hope to change or revise in your Nano story? Why these 2 things?

Assignments:
1. Post on your blog in a "New Post" 5 questions about revising and editing.
2. Post in a 2 paragraph response, summarizing your research and the answers you discovered.
3. Speak to Mrs. Walker, and if you have not done so send her your Nano story to melissa.walker@tusd1.org.
4. If your Nano is less than 8 pages or less than 2500 words, you NEED to add more to your story and print out 2 COPIES to bring on TUESDAY!!
5. Work on getting your blog set up how you want it. Post your Nano story to its own separate page.
